The program in Argentina is part of a regional program with other Members of MERCOSUR. Our counterparts in the rest of MERCOSUR are: the Institute for International Trade Negotiations (ICONE) in Brazil; the Paraguayan Chamber of Grain and Oilseed Exports (CAPECO) in Paraguay; and the Uruguayan Rural Association (ARU), the Uruguayan Industry Chamber (CIU) and the Chamber of Commerce and Export of Agriproducts and Agroindustrial Products (CMPP) in Uruguay.
The program tries to improve the commitment of involved members to contribute to regional integration and to establish a close relationship between public sector and agri-business sector. For that, it will reinforce the capability of agri-business sector to work together to take advantages of negotiations opportunities.
The main goal of the IDB/MIF Program is to improve MERCOSUR’s economic integration to the rest of the world. This goal is to be achieved by providing technical support to private and public sectors in agricultural trade negotiations as well as other strategic issues related to agricultural trade.
The program is divided into three components which are related to the activities that have to be accomplished by the institutions involved in order to reach the main goal. The first component aims to stimulate the agri-food private sector’s interest on the Program. The second deals with the improvement of institutions technical capacity. The third and last component relates to supporting strategic decision making by private and public sector.
The Program expects to show the advantages of working together in the agri-business sector of MERCOSUR. It also tries to improve the credibility of regional actions through better information exchange and a deeper regional integration process that can increase the investment of this kind of initiatives.
